BVT’s Village Store redevelopment planning began in 2023:
November 2023: BVT registered as Vermont Community Enterprise
January 2024: Initial seed grant from Preservation Trust of Vermont
January 2025: First major grant received (Village Trust Initiative - $475,000)
February 2025: BVT receives its 501(c)(3) status from the IRS
June 2025: Second major grant received (Northern Borders Regional Commission - $500,000)
February 2026: Construction Management firm hired
July 2026: Break ground
Essential Services and Shared Spaces
Design plans include 3,650 SF of retail space, indoor and outdoor gathering areas, café seating, use of the existing gas pumps, and flexible space for community use, local vendors, and exhibitions. BVT is in communication with the USPS regarding the return of the post office boxes and basic services.
Capital Raised as of March 2026:
Benson Village Trust has launched a $1,125,000 capital campaign and by the end of 2025, raised $933,000! We are seeking to raise an additional $225,000 to cover remaining construction costs and essential equipment for outfitting the new store.
